How much does a Squarespace website cost?
Running a business costs money. There are invoices to organize, wages to pay… and the utility bills won’t sort themselves out!
You also need to spend money on your website, the costs of which can vary depending on which platform you opt for.
How much does it cost to build a Squarespace website? Let’s take a look.
Squarespace pricing plans
Squarespace charges a monthly fee, which includes hosting, unlimited bandwidth, an SSL certificate, and video hosting. This means most of what you need is included, and there are no nasty surprises!
There are four pricing tiers to choose from, starting at $25 a month on a monthly contract.
The Personal plan is the most affordable and is ideal for individuals who don’t need a lot of features or eCommerce functionality. The Business plan is excellent for SMEs, while the two Commerce plans are fantastic if you want to sell online.
If you want to save money, you can save up to 36% by paying for the year in advance. This means the Personal plan drops from $25 a month to just $16.
Squarespace also offers discount vouchers from time to time, as well as 50% off for students.
You will need to pay for a domain name on top of your Squarespace pricing plan. This can cost anything from $20 a year to thousands of dollars, depending on the name you want and the top-level domain, for example, .com, .net, or .co.
The good news? New Squarespace subscribers are eligible for a year’s free custom domain if they pay annually!
Squarespace transaction fees
Squarespace is a fantastic platform for selling online. You can sell as many products as you want, promote your wares on social media, and even collect reviews for your items.
If you want to sell using Squarespace, you need a Business or Commerce plan. If you opt for the Business plan, you will pay a 3% transaction fee on any physical products or services you sell. There are no transaction fees to pay on the Basic or Advanced Commerce plan.
If your goal is to shift a lot of products online, this can make moving to a Commerce plan well worth the extra money.
As well as Squarespace transaction fees, you will also need to pay seller fees. These vary depending on the payment provider you use, and the countries you sell in.
Squarespace design costs
Squarespace comes with over 100 professionally designed templates. This means that if you want a high-quality, mobile-responsive website, you don’t have to pay extra.
However, paying for something bespoke has a lot of benefits. You get a website tailored to your brand and needs, which you know your competitors won’t have. Plus if you want any additional features like a podcast page, a developer can build this into the design for you.
How much does a bespoke Squarespace website cost? It varies from designer to designer. At Studio Elias, our design packages start at $3,000 for a semi-custom 3-page website or $5,000 for a custom 5-page website.
If a fully bespoke website is out of your price range but you still want something that makes you stand out from the crowd, there are options. You can purchase a pre-made template, which gives you a little more exclusivity.
Alternatively, a Squarespace developer can customize an existing Squarespace template to complement your brand. This is something we specialize in!
Additional features
Squarespace comes with lots of great features – like the ability to manage your search engine optimization (SEO). However, you may need to pay for additional functionality
For example, while you do get Squarespace Courses for free as part of your Squarespace plan, you only get 30 minutes of video storage, which isn’t a lot. You also have to pay a 9% transaction fee on all courses sold.
If you want to take advantage of more video space and smaller transaction fees, you can pay an add-on fee starting from $7 a month.
Some integrations may also incur a cost. For example, you can use Weglot’s free plan to translate up to 2,000 words on your website into one language. If you want more words or additional languages, you will need to upgrade your plan.
Your final bill will depend on the functionality you want for your website. Think about what you want your website to do, what Squarespace offers as part of your plan, and identify the features and integrations you’d like to add on.
