One Schoolhouse: 90+ course pages moved off Weebly before the shutdown

One Schoolhouse is a Washington, DC based partner to independent schools, with 10,000+ students enrolled in its online high school courses. Their site is a working catalog: every course needs its own page, and families and partner schools browse it year-round.

Project overview

With Weebly winding down, One Schoolhouse had a real deadline: the whole site had to be rebuilt on Squarespace before their January launch date. The catalog was the hard part. We designed one course page template, got it approved, then rolled it out across more than 90 courses, while their team worked in the backend alongside me so the migration never bottlenecked on one person.

The problem

A parent or partner school evaluating an online course provider judges the school by its site, and this one sat on a platform being discontinued. Rebuilding 90+ course pages by hand, one design at a time, would have blown both the budget and the January deadline. And losing the existing course URLs in the move would have thrown away years of search traffic to those pages.

What was done

Full migration from Weebly to Squarespace, driven by Weebly's discontinuation
A warm, human-centered design direction: color overlays on photography, varied font weights, organic flow between sections, no gimmicky animation
One course page template designed and approved first, then rolled out across 90+ courses
Course pages built as portfolio items, so adding next year's courses is duplication, not design work
Homepage and core information pages rebuilt to set the design language
URL structure preserved, with redirects mapped for the old .html addresses
Everything built natively in Squarespace, no custom code, so staff can edit any page
Backend access and workflow set up so the client's team built pages in parallel during the migration
Video tutorials and a recorded 1-hour training call for handover

The site launched on Squarespace ahead of the January deadline with its course URLs redirected and the team trained to run the catalog themselves. One Schoolhouse came back to Studio Elias in 2026 with new projects, and their sibling site, the Association for Academic Leaders, was redesigned in the same engagement.
