(Find out more about the benefits of Squarespace for bloggers.)
Best of all, you can get up and running with a Squarespace blog site in just ten minutes. Here’s our step-by-step guide to creating your first blog.
How to Create a Blog on Squarespace
Step 1: Activate Your Blog
Go to the Squarespace website you want to add a blog to, and under Website, click Pages.
Depending on the template you choose, you may already see Blog under Main Navigation. If so, click it to get started.
If you don’t, click the Plus (+) sign under Main Navigation and under the pop-up menu that appears, click Blog.
Choose the style of your blog page—this is the first page users see when they visit your blog.

Your Squarespace blog site is now set up.
Step 2: Edit Your Blog Settings
When you hover over your blog page in the Squarespace menu, you’ll see a cog. Click on this to access your general blog settings.
Here you can:
Change the name and URL of your blog
Edit the title and description of your blog (this is what will appear in the search engine results)
Hide your blog from the search results (we only recommend doing this if you want to keep your blog private)
Add a password if you want to password-protect your blog
Add a social image—this is what will appear if someone shares your site on a social media platform like Facebook or LinkedIn
Set up an RSS feed for your blog—this makes it easy to let people know when you create a new post
Manage categories and tags. These allow you to group specific content in your blog to make things easier to find. For example, if you run a clothing blog, you can have categories for dresses, shoes, and casual wear
Choose how many posts you want to display on your blog page
Set your blog as the main homepage of your site
You can also use Page Header Code Injection and Post Blog Item Code Injection to add custom code to all your blog posts.
When you’re done, click on your blog, ready for the next step.
Step 3: Create Your First Blog Post
Some blog templates come with premade posts you can use—just click on them and hit the black EDIT button to start building your articles.
If not, or you want to create more, click the large plus sign next to the Blog Content heading to create a new post.

Alternatively, you can copy an article by hovering over it, clicking the three-dot menu and selecting Duplicate.
Your Squarespace blog post is made up of individual blocks. You can add blocks, delete them, and move them around your page.
(Bear in mind that you can’t add sections to your blog post like you can on other pages of your website.)
As well as text, images, and videos, you can add the following content to your Squarespace blog site:
Call-to-action buttons
Galleries
Spacers and horizontal lines
Summary blocks (we’ll talk more about these later)
Links to your social media accounts (you can also embed your Instagram feed)
Calendars
Accordions
Maps
Embedded code
When you’ve finished creating your blog post, click Save to leave or Publish to make your article live on your site.
You can hover over your blog post and click the cog to access specific settings for your article. Here you can:
Add a featured image and extract which will display on your blog page
Change your URL
Toggle the blog post author (this information appears at the bottom of each article by default. Here’s how to add authors to your site.)
Change the status of your blog and schedule a time and date for it to publish
Define categories and tags
Enable or disable comments
Highlight your article as a featured post
Edit the title and description of your blog post
Add a social media image
Send your post to your email subscribers or social media followers
Add a location to your blog post
How Many Blog Posts Can You Have on Your Squarespace Site?
There are no limits to how many articles you can have on your blog, although bear in mind that you can only have 1,000 pages across your whole site.
You can also have multiple blogs across your site, making it easy to organize your information and appeal to different site visitors. For example, you may choose to have one blog for corporate news articles and another for content.
How Can I Promote My Blog on My Homepage?
The best way to promote your blog on your homepage (or any other page on your site) is with a summary block. This displays a set number of blogs that site visitors can click on.
Click the blue plus sign to add a block and choose Summary from the Block menu.
Under Select a Page, choose your blog, decide how you want to sort and filter your blogs (for example, by most recent or by a specific category) and toggle to Design to style your summary block.
